Northern Play Therapy was founded with the vision of providing specialized, evidence-based mental health care for children, youth, and families across Ontario. We believe in the power of play, creativity, and connection as pathways to healing. Our therapists are Registered Social Workers with advanced training in play therapy, EMDR, CBT, DBT, arts-based methods, and parent–child approaches.
We are deeply committed to supporting children and families through every stage of their journey, creating a safe space where resilience, growth, and stronger connections can flourish.
At Northern Play Therapy, we know that no two children or families are the same. That’s why we tailor therapy to meet the unique needs of each child and caregiver.
Our therapists integrate a range of approaches, including play-based and arts-based therapies, EMDR, trauma-focused interventions, CBT, DBT, and parent–child sessions. We emphasize attachment, emotional safety, and strengths-based strategies to help children express themselves, build coping skills, and restore connection within their families.
Ongoing clinical supervision and continuous professional development ensure that our therapists bring the highest level of care to every family we serve.
Families come to Northern Play Therapy in many ways — directly, through referrals, and with the support of specialized funding programs.
We provide services for and receive referrals from child protection agencies, and we are approved to offer services through a range of funding pathways:
✔ Approved Victim Quick Response Program (VQRP) providers, funded through the Ministry of the Attorney General
✔ Experienced in supporting families through Jordan’s Principle
✔ Registered with the Indian Residential Schools (IRS) Program
✔ Registered providers for Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB)
✔ Covered by most extended health insurance plans (for Registered Social Workers)
✔ Direct billing available with some providers — please contact us for details
